Created by Icelandic sculptor Jón Gunnar Árnason in 1990, Sun Voyager (Sólfar) is frequently mistaken for a Viking raiding ship. However, the artist specifically described it as 'a dream boat, an ode to the sun,' meant to convey the promise of undiscovered territory and hope. Tragically, Árnason died of leukemia shortly before the sculpture was formally unveiled.
