The 'Canyon Dweller'. A magical waterfall hidden inside a narrow cave, just a 5-minute walk from Seljalandsfoss.
Story & Legend
While crowds gather at Seljalandsfoss, this hidden gem offers a mystical experience. You have to wade through a stream to enter the 'Troll's Shower Room'. Often missed by tourists, the 40-meter waterfall plunges into a narrow slot canyon, creating an ethereal atmosphere as light filters through the opening above.
Geology & Science
40 meters high. Name literally means "Canyon Dweller". The slot canyon was carved by water eroding a weakness in the cliff face over millennia.
Safety
Waterproof boots and raincoats are essential. You will get wet from the spray inside the cave. The stones in the stream are slippery.
Photo Tip
Look up! The silhouette of the canyon opening with sky and falling water is unique. A wide-angle lens is essential in the tight space.
Insider Tip
Leave your expensive camera gear outside unless it's in a waterproof housing. The spray inside the cave is like standing in a heavy rainstorm.
Best Time to Visit
Early morning to avoid the queue of people waiting to step on the stones through the narrow canyon entrance.
What to Bring
Knee-high waterproof boots and full rain gear (jacket and pants). You have to balance on wet stones in the river to get inside the cave.
